Wolfpack Overcome Circumstances to Sink Silverbacks

Wisconsin Wolfpack LogoThe Wisconsin Wolfpack overcame a pre-game delay, a litany of penalties, an ejection and a two-game losing streak to capture a 53-30 win over the Miami Valley Silverbacks at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Saturday night.

Tom Kudyba, in his third game as the Wolfpack’s starting quarterback since Tom Stetzer’s season ended with a shoulder injury, navigated the Wolfpack (6-4) to their second win under his watch.  The biggest play of the night came in the third quarter when Kudyba found Reggie Davis for a 48-yard touchdown pass.  The Silverbacks (0-8) scored first to take a 6-0 lead, but the Wolfpack scored on their first possession and would not trail the rest of the night.

The start of the game was delayed 40 minutes due to a dead battery in the Silverbacks’ team bus.  The game was also marred by numerous penalties, including a number of unsportsmanlike conduct calls.  Wolfpack offensive lineman Rob Gilbreath was ejected from the game in the third quarter.

The win snaps a two-game losing streak for the Wolfpack, who can now secure a playoff spot with a win in either of their final two games.  The first will be against the undefeated Chicago Slaughter, Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum while the second will be in Wheeling, W. Va. against the Wheeling Wild on June 6.  Tickets for the Slaughter game are available online at ticketmaster.com.
