Wolfpack Hope Fourth Time's the Charm

The Wisconsin Wolfpack will battle the undefeated Chicago Slaughter in the first round of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) playoffs Saturday at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill. The Wolfpack and Slaughter played three times during the regular season, with the Slaughter coming out on top in all three games.

Wisconsin played the Slaughter tough in their first matchup on March 21, a 40-36 loss, that the Wolfpack had an opportunity to win late. However, the Slaughter really found their groove, beating the Wolfpack 67-22 at the Sears Centre on May 16, and 49-14 at the Alliant Energy Center on May 30.

The Wolfpack have the third-ranked defense and sixth-ranked offense in the CIFL. Chicago, meanwhile, enters the game as the top-rated offense and second-rated defense. The Slaughter offense has run rampant through much of the CIFL, averaging 66 points per game.

The Wolfpack defense was the top-ranked defense for half the season. Through the first seven games of the season, Wisconsin's defense allowed less than 30 points per game. However, the last five games, the defense is allowing just over 50 points per game.

The Wolfpack will need to figure out what worked in the first half of the season to be able to slow down the Slaughter offense and have a chance to advance to the CIFL Championship game.
